Almost everyone I meet already accepts the science. Most have tried a carbon calculator at least once. They answered twenty questions, got a number, felt briefly guilty, and closed the tab.
The number was never the problem. The problem is the ordinary Tuesday that follows, when the bus is late, the meeting runs over, and the better choice quietly loses to the easy one.
We built EarthReheal for that Tuesday. Until now it was only available in India. Today it opens to people in most other countries, with one design decision we are proud of: outside India, there is no account, and nothing about you leaves your phone.
What can I do with the app?
See your footprint, built from your own life. You answer questions about your home and heating, how you travel (flights included), what you eat and what you buy. The estimate uses your country's electricity grid and published national averages, not one-size-fits-all figures, and it shows distances in miles or kilometres depending on where you live. The app explains how the number was made, source by source.
Find the change that matters most. Instead of fifty generic tips, your plan points to the changes that would move your number most. For one person that is the commute. For another it is heating, or what is on the plate.
Turn an intention into a habit. Pick a challenge you can keep, such as walking or cycling instead of driving, or a few meat-free days. Check in each day, build a streak, and see the carbon each challenge is expected to save. A small daily mission keeps the habit going on busy days.
Watch your progress. Trips and green actions you log on your day log count towards what you have offset, shown next to your footprint and never subtracted from it. Your trend by day, week, month or year sits beside your country's average and the world's. This offset is a tally of your own avoided emissions, not a carbon credit.
Do it together. Climate action is easier when it is not lonely:
- Organise a cleanup, a tree planting, a recycling drive or an awareness camp. Send the invite into the group chat you already use. People reply Going, Maybe or Can't, and you see the count. Change the time or cancel, and everyone who joined gets the update from a link you share.
- On the day, people check in by scanning a QR code on your phone, with no signal needed. Afterwards you share the results, and everyone sees the group's total next to their own part.
- For tree planting, the app reminds you to go back at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months and count how many saplings survived.
- Drives can repeat weekly or monthly, and a co-organiser can help you run them.
- Challenges work with friends too. Share your progress and see a group board of what everyone has sent you.
Let the app remember the dull things. Set reminders for a vehicle test or insurance renewal, a boiler or heat-pump service, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, or anything of your own. Efficiency should not depend on memory.
Keep learning. Dozens of short lessons on energy, heating, travel, food, water, plastics and everyday habits, plus quizzes, games and a daily climate fact, all written for where you live.
Do I need an account?
No. Outside India, you choose your country, confirm you are 18 or over, read a short declaration, and start. You can add a first name if you like; it stays on your phone.
In India, the same app gives you the full EarthReheal experience with an account, because it connects to local collectors, partners and regulations that need one.
What do you know about me?
Nothing. Outside India, the app does not send us your name, email, location, contacts, photos or anything you type, and it carries no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
The app makes one kind of request on its own: it checks for updates. That request carries only the app version, whether it is an iPhone or an Android phone, and the country you chose. We keep a daily count of app starts by country, so we know roughly how many people use EarthReheal, and nothing else.
What happens when I share an invite?
The details of a drive or challenge travel inside the link itself, in the part after the #. Web browsers never send that part to a server, so even when a friend opens your link on our website, the details do not reach us. Only the people you send the link to can read it, and the app tells you exactly what a link contains before you share it.
Invites are signed by the organiser's phone. Anyone can create their own event, but nobody can change or cancel yours.
What if I lose or change my phone?
Your data lives on your phone, so you stay in control of where it goes:
- Your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud) can carry the app's data to a new phone of the same kind.
- A backup file moves everything to any phone, Android or iPhone. You decide where it goes: AirDrop, your own cloud drive, or an email to yourself. You can protect it with a passphrase.
- Erase everything removes all of it from your phone in one step. There is nothing to delete anywhere else, because we never had it.
Why go global now?
Families and friendships cross borders, and so does climate change. The people we already reach in India have friends and family in London, Dubai, Singapore and San Francisco, and every one of them faces the same Tuesday.
India remains our home and our focus. This is how we start serving everyone else, and we would rather earn your trust first, then add more with your feedback.
How do I start?
Download EarthReheal from the App Store or Google Play, choose your country, and begin. If you know someone abroad who has been meaning to do something about their footprint, send them this.
And if you lead a school, a workplace sustainability programme or a community group and want to bring EarthReheal to your members, I would like to hear from you.
